Document Production Technician / Document Formatting Specialist.

Preston, Lancashire head office for training and then remote working available.

Working pattern 10am - 6pm Monday to Friday. Full time, permanent.

You will support the entire firm by accurately and efficiently producing documents and dictations across various areas of law.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and amend documents from handwritten mark-ups accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Create documents and correspondence using digital dictation.
  • Create tables, flowcharts and presentations to a high standard.
  • Proofread all work to ensure accuracy, correct layout, etc.
  • Advanced use of track changes.
  • Advanced use of auto-numbering, cross-referencing and table of contents.
  • Use of comparison software such as CompareDocs.
  • Strip and reformat documents into firm house style.
  • Troubleshoot problem documents using extensive knowledge to find solutions.
  • Ensure house style is adhered to and promoted on all documents.
  • Ensure all documents that come through the department are correctly formatted and stable.
  • Document conversion – PDF to Word.
  • Conversion of video meetings/upload to Bighand for transcription.
  • Bundling of Court and Employment Tribunal e-bundles to include pagination, book-marking and hyperlinks.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Advanced Word/Office skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to produce, format and work with complex and lengthy legal documents and agreements.
  • Fast, accurate typing skills (minimum 70 wpm)
  • Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Proven experience within a Document Production Team in a law firm is desirable for this role, although training will be provided to the successful candidate.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Critical eye for detail.
  • Pro-active, “can do” attitude.
  • Knowledge of BigHand, iManage and/or Proclaim case management systems is desirable.
